Current understanding of groundwater recharge and groundwater drought in Sweden compared to countries with similar geology and climate

چکیده

Recently, groundwater in Sweden has attracted media attention due to supply shortages caused by dry periods and low levels. About half of Swedish drinking water stems from groundwater. The small aquifers are highly dependent on frequent sufficient recharge. Groundwater recharge forms the link between meteorological drought thus main climate change sustainable supply. This study evaluated whether current knowledge is mitigate impacts change. A review international literature regions with conditions similar was performed. National compared links studies evaluated. survey among experts complemented study. Findings that research been scarce over last decades seem not have taken much notice literature. It concluded well prepared predict impact resources, as most crucial process linking understood. a strong focus Sweden, however, results also relevant for countries geology climate. One conclusion often remain unique, hardly transferable comparable. Two or more independent rarely applied parallel, verification based direct observations common. raises concerns about reliability predictions

Artificial recharge of groundwater: hydrogeology and engineering

Artificial recharge of groundwater is achieved by putting surface water in basins. furrows, ditches, or other facilities where it infiltrates into the soil and moves downward to recharge aquifers. Artificial recharge is increasingly used for shortor long-term underground storage. where it has several advantages over surface storage, and in water reuse. Artificial recharge requires permeable sur...

Groundwater Modelling: from Geology to Hydrogeology

Three-dimensional mapping has extensively developed in the last decade; geological mapping being the area where these developments are more striking. 3D geological mapping has a myriad of applications in the domains of basin analysis, geophysics, geostatistics, geothermal and energy resources, etc. A parallel domain of development has been three-dimensional groundwater modelling: regional groun...

Coupled modeling approach to assess climate change impacts on groundwater recharge and adaptation in arid areas

The effect of future climate scenarios on surface and groundwater resources was simulated using a modeling approach for an artificial recharge area in arid southern Iran. Future climate data for the periods of 2010–2030 and 2030–2050 were acquired from the Canadian Global Coupled Model (CGCM 3.1) for scenarios A1B, A2, and B1. These scenarios were adapted to the studied region using the delta-c...
